Welcome to First Grade!
Accelerated Readers:Our beginning of the year goal was for students to complete 25 AR books and tests to earn a gift card for AMC Movie Theaters. Please encourage your child to continue reading AR books.
PE Days: Monday and Wednesday .

Math Homework:  Tuesday, June 2, 2009 no homework
Important Dates:
Monday, June 1, 2009: Full day of school. Math Final Review. PE
Tuesday, June 2, 2009: Math End of Year Test, Reading Marathon to finish Humphrey: please bring in a favorite blanket or pillow for reading.
Noon Dismissal ** Please remember to send in a healthy snack for this noon dismissal day. The students are accustomed to having lunch at 11:15 AM and will be quite hungry without a snack.

             Topics for week of June 1, 2009
Spelling Words:None (students may enjoy practicing their words on the website www.spellingcity.com) additional websites listed below.
Vocabulary Words: Vocabulary words are "high frequency" words. Students will need to know their meaning and how to use them in a sentence. High Frequency words this week: None

Math: We will review for our End of Year Math Final on Monday, June 1, 2009 and take our exam on Tuesday, June 2, 2009,

Reading and Language Arts:We will complete thank you notes for the faculty and staff who work with first grade throughout the year and we will work in our own memory books, decorating and writing about our memories. We will also have a reading marathon to finish our current Humphrey book on Tuesday after our Math Final. Students may bring their favorite blanket or pillow to use on the floor during reading.

Science and Social Studies:
We will complete the short unit on the ocean and sea creatures. We will be learning factual information about sharks, dolphins, sea turtles, seahorses, fish and animals/plants found in swamps and marshes in Florida. We will also discuss summer safety: water safety, safe exposure to sun, and safety measures with summer recreational activities.

Religion:  We will discuss Sunday's Gospel reading and complete the Church Worship Bulletin. We will discuss the Ascension and Pentecost. We will also continue discussing our own stewardship and Jesus' mission for us.
